Virginia Hospital Center and Northern Virginia Community College, and Arlington County’s Department of Public Safety Communications & Emergency Management offer CampMed, a week-long camp with hands-on activities for middle school students who are interested in healthcare. Students will interact with the many health care professionals who work in an acute care setting. All activities are "hands-on" and may include topics such as surgery, emergency medicine, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology and CPR. On certain days, campers travel by charter bus to Northern Virginia Community College in Springfield for activities which may include crime scene management and investigation, pathology and much more.
Students who wish to participate should have an interest in a healthcare career. During camp, students are responsible for adhering to camp guidelines, enthusiastically participating in every activity, asking lots of questions and being responsible for their personal belongings.
Parents are responsible for completing all required forms on time, helping their camper complete orientation, preparing lunch and snacks for their camper, providing on-time transportation to and from camp each day and engaging their camper in discussions about camp experiences.
CampMed is open to rising 7th through rising 9th grade students. A fee of $250 is due once the student is accepted in to the program. Limited scholarship may be awarded on an as-needed basis, please inquire if needed.
