FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sharon Brickhouse Martin Honored as Women’s Health Champion by Washington Business Journal

Arlington, VA (August 8, 2025) –
VHC Health, a community-based health system serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area, is proud to announce that Sharon Brickhouse Martin, Vice President of Health Services Integration, has been named the Women’s Health Champion in the Washington Business Journal’s Innovators in Health Care awards program. This distinguished honor recognizes her visionary leadership in the successful launch of the Charlotte Stump Benjamin Center for Women’s Health at VHC Health.

Brickhouse Martin was selected by the Washington Business Journal’s newsroom team as one of 12 honorees from a highly competitive pool, following a review of community nominations and internal editorial recommendations. This elite group represents Greater Washington’s most forward-thinking clinical and business leaders, each working to address some of the healthcare industry’s most pressing challenges.

“We are incredibly proud of Sharon and all she has accomplished,” said Christopher T. Lane, President and CEO of VHC Health. “Her strategic leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing women’s health have been instrumental in strengthening our ability to deliver equitable, high-quality care. This distinction underscores our health system’s dedication to meeting the unique needs of the patients in our community, and we are proud to have Sharon guiding these critical initiatives.”

“I’m incredibly honored to be named a Women’s Health Champion by the Washington Business Journal, and this award is deeply meaningful,” said Brickhouse Martin. “This recognition reflects the collective work of our teams who are deeply committed to advancing women’s health and ensuring that every woman in our community has access to the care and support she needs. I’m continually inspired by the resilience of the women we serve and by the dedication of my colleagues, especially the women physicians whose vision helped shape this center and who now lead its care. This has truly been a team effort, from the physicians who brought the center to life to the current staff who carry its mission forward every day. The Center for Women’s Health is a major step toward closing long-standing gaps in women’s health and building a system that works better for everyone, but there is still plenty of work to be done.”

Brickhouse Martin has also recently been recognized as a Virginia Business 2025 Women in Leadership, Fierce Healthcare 2025 Most Influential Minority Executives in Healthcare, as well as Becker’s 2024 Black Healthcare Leaders to Know honoree.
