Melody Dickerson Recognized with Virginia Business Women in Leadership Award

Arlington, VA (July 14, 2024) –
VHC Health, a community-based health system providing medical services to the Washington, DC metropolitan area, is proud to announce that Melody Dickerson, Senior Vice President for Hospital Operations and Chief Nursing Officer, has been recognized as a distinguished recipient of the 2024 Women in Leadership Award by Virginia Business. The award celebrates Melody’s outstanding leadership and contributions to healthcare.

The Virginia Business Women in Leadership Award highlights exceptional women executives across Virginia, acknowledging their significant professional achievements and community impact. This year, Melody Dickerson stood out among a cohort of 38 accomplished leaders, selected from a competitive pool of over 250 nominees. Her dedication to breaking barriers, mentoring others, and fostering civic engagement has set a benchmark for leadership excellence.

"In her role at VHC Health, Melody Dickerson exemplifies the transformative impact of women in leadership," stated Christopher T. Lane, President and CEO of VHC Health. "Her dedication to quality healthcare services, aiding in the successful launch of a new outpatient pavilion in Arlington, has been instrumental in driving our mission forward."

Melody, who recently earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Baylor University, brings a unique perspective that informs the strategies she employs while leading more than two-thirds of VHC Health employees across various departments. In her first 90 days as chief nursing officer, she focused on improving retention rates, particularly among nurses, by emphasizing career growth within VHC Health. This approach yielded significant increases in recruitment and retention rates under Melody’s leadership.

“I am honored to be recognized as a Virginia Business Women in Leadership and am so proud to lead such an exceptional team in enhancing access to affordable and quality healthcare,” Dickerson affirmed. “I love going to work every day. It sounds cliche, but it’s really the truth.”
