Your Inpatient Rehabilitation Team

Your rehabilitation team at the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at VHC Health may include:

  • Physiatrists (physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors) – Oversee and coordinate your rehabilitative care
  • Clinical psychologists and neuropsychologists – Monitor your mental status, conduct a brief neuropsychological evaluation, and educate patients and families about how changes in neurological status affect thinking skills, emotions and behavior
  • Dietitians – Help you get the nutrition you need to recover
  • Nurses, including Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses (CRRNs) – Teach you about medication and self-care, help with pain management and reinforce techniques learned in therapy
  • Physical therapists (PTs) – Assess your mobility and help you regain function and quality of life
  • Occupational therapists (OTs) – Evaluate and help you improve your ability to perform activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing and feeding
  • Pharmacists – Make sure you take medications safely
  • Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) – Diagnose and treat speech, language, cognition, voice and swallowing disorders
  • Respiratory therapists – Manage breathing disorders through medication, respirators and chest physical therapy
  • Recreation therapists – Use arts and crafts; drama, music and dance; sports and games; aquatics; and community outings to boost your physical, social and emotional well-being
  • Art therapists – Use paint, clay, oil pastels, and more to help you enhance your physical, mental and emotional well-being
  • Pet therapists – Bring therapy dogs that help increase healing and provide comfort and love
  • Case managers – Arrange for medical equipment and therapy after discharge, act as a liaison with your insurance company, and help address economic or social issues impacting your safe transition to home
