The VHC Health Birth Experience

Why Choose VHC Health?

Welcome your baby into the world with the support of VHC Health in Arlington and the DC metro. You'll give birth at one of America's top maternity hospitals for 2025, according to Newsweek. The magazine awarded us five ribbons (the top honor) because of our good:

  • Patient survey results
  • Quality of maternal and hospital care
  • Results of a national survey of health professionals

High-Quality Care and Outcomes

VHC Health is special because you get both top-quality medical care and emotional support. Explore two programs: the Labor Support Volunteer Program and the early labor walking lanes. Both programs use proven methods to make your birth experience better.

Labor Support Volunteer Program

Through this program, you'll find doula-trained labor support volunteers (LSVs). They give you extra care and help during labor. These volunteers care deeply about helping you.

They include:

  • Doulas-in-training
  • Former VHC Health patients
  • Local women who have given birth

Look forward to encouragement and support through the whole birth process. LSVs work with the medical team, so you get all the support you need. Patients with little support receive help first. If you'd like to see an LSV, tell someone on your care team.

Early Labor Walking Lanes & Lounge

VHC Health was first in the DC metro area to offer early labor walking lanes and an early labor lounge. They let you and your support person move during labor, help labor progress, and improve birth outcomes. To learn more, read page 10 of this VHC Health magazine [PDF].

Low Rate of C-Sections

Vaginal delivery usually leads to a faster recovery than a Cesarean section. (C-sections make a long cut in the belly to take out the baby.) So, your care team works hard to reduce the rate of Cesarean deliveries. VHC Health has a primary C-section rate that's much lower than almost all hospitals in the DC area. Trust us to help keep you and your baby safe no matter how you give birth.

Amenities for You & Your Loved Ones

You receive caring, personal attention during your birth experience. You'll appreciate:

  • Large, comfortable, private rooms
  • Labor support options, including aromatherapy (scents), white noise machines, labor combs, peanut balls, and birthing balls
  • Free meal for your support person
  • Space for a loved one to stay overnight in the labor/delivery and postpartum rooms
  • Nursery available 24/7 so you can rest

Spouses, partners, support persons, and doulas are always welcome during delivery.
