When to See a Urogynecologist
A urogynecologist is a doctor who completed a fellowship in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery. Reach out if you want a second opinion or have concerns about your pelvic floor health. Our skilled doctors can help you with:

- Implanted vaginal mesh problems
- Interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome)
- Menopause
- Overactive bladder
- Pain during sex
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pelvic pain, discomfort, bulging or pressure
- Post-menopausal symptoms
- Post-partum tears, wounds, pain, and urine leaks
- Recurring urinary tract infections (UTIs) and bladder infections
- Reproductive tract problems present at birth
- Fecal incontinence
- Stress urinary incontinence
- Urgency urinary incontinence
Incontinence Care
Urinary incontinence can happen to women of any age, but you don’t have to live with it. Talk to your doctor if you:
- Often feel a sudden, strong need to pee
- Have trouble emptying your bladder
- Leak urine when you exercise, cough, laugh, or sneeze
Urinary Incontinence Treatment
Trust VHC Health to help you avoid leaking urine by accident. Ask us about:
- Botox® bladder injections – Relaxes the bladder and can help stop urine leaks
- Axonics® or Medtronic® Sacral NeuroModulation – Works like a pacemaker for the pelvis, helping control the bladder
- Pelvic floor rehabilitation – Teaches you how to relieve pelvic pain and incontinence
- Tibial nerve stimulation – Sends gentle electrical pulses to a nerve near your ankle to help calm the bladder

Diagnosing Pelvic Floor Conditions
Tests can help us find the reason for your symptoms. Your doctor may order:
- Cystourethroscopy – Looks at the urethra, bladder, and nearby openings
- Physical evaluation – Checks your pelvic floor
- Physical nerve evaluation – Looks for nerve damage in the pelvic floor
- Ultrasound – Uses sound waves to create pictures of organs and tissues inside your body
- Urodynamic testing – Checks how well the lower urinary tract works
- X-ray – Uses a small amount of radiation to create black-and-white pictures of the inside of your body
Your Test Results
Some test results are ready the same day. It may take a few days for doctors to determine the results of other tests. We'll reach out when they're ready and tell you if you need more tests or appointments.
If you have a MyVHC patient portal account, you can view test results online. You'll get a message when they're available.
Complete, Personal Care
Your care team will take time to help you feel comfortable during your visit. We want to help you feel better, so you can enjoy daily life again. Your urogynecologist will listen, explain your condition clearly, and go over your treatment choices.
Depending on your needs and preferences, your personal care plan may include:
- Biofeedback – Helps you learn how to control muscle tension
- Lifestyle and behavior changes – Improves pelvic and overall health
- Medicines – Ease pain and other symptoms
- Pelvic floor reconstruction surgery – Repairs damaged muscles or tissues
- Vaginal pessary – Uses a small device worn in your body to support pelvic organs
Less Invasive Surgery
Sometimes, surgery is the best treatment. Your urogynecologist will use the smallest possible incisions, or sometimes no incisions at all. That means less pain, a lower risk of infection, smaller scars, and a faster recovery. Your procedure might use technology such as:
- Laparoscope – Thin tube with a light and camera that shows the inside of your body without a long incision
- Surgical robot – Has arms that bend and rotate further and more precisely than human hands
You may be able to go home the same day after your procedure. Learn more about what to expect from your surgical experience.
