Richard D. Murray, MD, FAANS, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with VHC Health Neurosurgery. He specializes in microsurgical and minimally invasive treatment of brain and spine disorders, with particular expertise in complex brain, skull base, and spine tumors.

Dr. Murray completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident, with additional training at Maine Medical Center and the Montreal Neurological Institute. He went on to complete fellowships in skull base and micro-neurosurgery at LSUHSC and minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Originally from South Africa, he earned his medical degree from Stellenbosch University and has practiced in critical care and neurosurgery in South Africa and the UK. 

He is the Chairman of Neurosurgery at VHC Health, and in August 2025, his former practice, Virginia Neurosurgeons, was integrated into VHC Health, marking the launch of the new VHC Health Neurosurgery practice.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, Dr. Murray collaborates closely with other specialists to develop personalized treatment plans and deliver optimal outcomes for patients facing complex neurological challenges.
