Safa Osman, MD, MHA, ABIM, ABOM, is dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine with over two decades of clinical experience. She currently practices at VHC Health Gastrointestinal & Bariatric Surgery - Fairfax, where she is a leading advocate for comprehensive weight management and chronic disease prevention.
Dr. Osman earned her medical degree in 1998 from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Omdurman Islamic University in Sudan. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York Medical College/Montefiore Medical Center in 2007, and later obtained a Master's Degree in Health Administration and Gerontology from the University of Phoenix in 2016.
Early in her career, Dr. Osman founded and led a successful primary care practice in West Virginia for over 10 years. Practicing in one of the states with the highest obesity rates, she recognized the urgent need for specialized care and proactively expanded her practice to include a dedicated medical weight management clinic. Her work in this area positioned her as a trusted leader in the fight against obesity, providing care that integrates medical, behavioral, and lifestyle strategies tailored to each patient's needs.
In 2020, Dr. Osman became board-certified in Obesity Medicine, formalizing her long-standing commitment to the field. She continues to stay at the forefront of evidence-based obesity care through ongoing education and participation in national conferences.
Dr. Osman is known for her compassionate, patient-centered approach that emphasizes prevention, collaboration, and personalized care. She believes in treating the whole person—addressing physical, emotional, and social factors to support long-term health and well-being.
She is a recipient of the Top Doctor Award in Ranson, West Virginia (2017), and the Top Doctor Award by Continental Who’s Who (2018). She is a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and the New York Medical College Association.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Osman enjoys reading, biking, and traveling with her husband and three children.
