Matthew Lucks, MD, FACC earned his undergraduate degree from Brandeis University, graduating cum laude in 1995. He then went on to earn a medical degree from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Syracuse in 1999. He completed residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York receiving the James Morgan Award in 2001 for demonstrating outstanding enthusiasm and ability for teaching residents. In addition, he was awarded a Humanism in Medicine accolade for compassionate care and the humanistic development of medical students. Dr. Lucks then completed a three-year Cardiovascular Diseases Clinical Fellowship also at Strong Memorial Hospital. During his Fellowship, Dr. Lucks was the recipient of the inaugural Fellowship Teaching Award in 2004 for demonstrating outstanding interest and teaching of the medical house officers.

Dr. Lucks began practicing cardiology in San Diego, California in 2005. While there he received the San Diego Magazine Top Doctor Award seven times during his years working in the city. He was also a frequent contributor to local news organizations regarding health and cardiovascular matters.

While practicing medicine, Dr. Lucks emphasizes patient education, preventive cardiology, and compassion. He works to make sure patients are involved in the decisions regarding their medical management and treatment.

Dr. Lucks joined the Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group in 2018. He is board certified in Cardiology.

Originally from New York, Dr. Lucks is a new resident of Northern Virginia. In his free time, Dr. Lucks enjoys playing baseball/softball, fitness, and spending time with his friends and family.

He's the best. I saw him explain issues to my husband a year ago and knew if I needed a consult or diagnosis I would try to see him. He listens, really listens! And is so good at explaining issues and making sure you're following. Just a nice person too. I would have waited another hour happily for this kind of care. Night and day difference from the last doctor I saw in this practice a few years ago.
