John McCauley, MD, is a board-certified urologist with VHC Health Urology - Arlington.
He was born in north Florida and raised in the rural town of Excel, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he pursued a degree in biomedical engineering. His initial career goal was to obtain a PhD and pursue research; however, after an experience at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center, he felt called to medicine and stopped at a Master of Science degree. He then commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army. He attended medical school at the University of Florida, where he graduated cum laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He was brought to the DMV for residency, which he completed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2020. He was then stationed at A. T. Augusta Military Medical Center (formerly Fort Belvoir) for five years, where he served as Chief of Urology before receiving an honorable discharge from the Army. He spent nearly half of his residency training at VHC Health.
Dr. McCauley sees a wide array of urologic disorders, which include but are not limited to: enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer, voiding dysfunction such as overactive bladder and pelvic floor dysfunction, testicular cancer, erectile dysfunction, kidney stone disease, Peyronie’s disease, and low testosterone.
When he is not working, Dr. McCauley enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, playing video games, and watching college football.
