Dr. Hales received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University where he trained in medicine and was Chief Resident. He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University. He did pulmonary and critical care training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Hales is board certified in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine. He has extensive experience in multimodality management of patients with lung cancer, especially in diagnostic and staging techniques. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Association for Bronchology. Dr. Hales is the Chief of the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Division at Virginia Hospital Center. He joined PMA in 2003.
