J. R. Salameh, MD, FACS, FASMBS is the Medical Director of the VHC Health Bariatric and Metabolic Health Center and a Professor of Clinical Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Dr. Salameh is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon. He is a fellowship-trained laparo-endoscopic surgery specialist. After obtaining his Medical Degree from Saint Joseph University (Beirut Lebanon), he did his General Surgery training at Georgetown University (Washington DC) and then completed a Laparoscopic/Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston Texas). Before joining VHC Health Physicians - Surgical Specialists in July 2007, Dr. Salameh was an Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of the Surgery Simulation Center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (Jackson, MS).
Dr. Salameh performs a wide range of minimally-invasive gastrointestinal surgical procedures, including weight loss surgeries and heartburn surgery. He is nationally recognized as an expert in all types of hernia surgeries, including complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He takes a laparoscopic or robotic approach to all his operations. Dr. Salameh earned the Master Surgeon in Robotic Surgery accreditation with the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) for upholding the highest quality and patient safety standards and also participates in VHC Health’s Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.
Dr. Salameh is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, as well as a member of numerous surgical societies, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the American Hernia Society.
The author of numerous publications and journal articles, Dr. Salameh is also a frequent lecturer and scientific presenter and is proficient in English, French, and Arabic.
