Haroon Rashid, MD, specializes in electrophysiology, including catheter ablations and pacemaker and defibrillator implantation to treat arrhythmias and other conditions. He is a pioneer in using Focal Impulse Rotor Mapping (FIRMap) a new technology to help identify mechanisms for fibrillation and offers a novel way to map and then ablate atrial fibrillation. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
“Arrhythmias always fascinated me and electrophysiology allows me to understand and treat life-threatening disease which can often be so effectively managed using sophisticated mapping systems and catheters,” he said. “It gives me great pleasure to see my patients return to a full vigor of life, no longer hindered by their arrhythmias.”
Dr. Rashid earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He pursued his residency at Miami Valley Hospital at Wright State University before completing fellowships in cardiology with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health and in cardiac electrophysiology at Georgetown University Medical Center.
In his free time, Dr. Rashid is an astronomy buff who is a member of the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club. He has traveled to Spruce Knob in West Virginia and hiked to the top to witness the Milky Way and heavens at night. He also enjoys biking and often bikes to work. But most of all, he enjoys his role as a father the most.
