Saira Bilal, MD, brings over 20 years of experience in clinical care, research, and medical education.
She earned her medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Pakistan and completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. She went on to complete her fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where she also served as Chief Rheumatology Fellow.
Her career includes serving as a hospitalist at Washington University in St. Louis and later joining the faculty at George Washington University as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. During her academic tenure, she supervised and mentored fellows, residents, and medical students and contributed to multiple core clinical committees. She has conducted extensive research in inflammatory arthritis and autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Bilal currently practices at the Arthritis Clinic of Northern Virginia, where she provides personalized care for a broad spectrum of rheumatologic conditions. The clinic offers biologic infusions for rheumatologic diseases, renal transplant patients, and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as injection therapies for osteoporosis and joint-related disorders.
Her clinical interests include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, gout, pseudogout, psoriatic arthritis, seronegative arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, Sjögren’s syndrome, vasculitis, osteoarthritis, and joint injections. Dr. Bilal has a strong interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound and holds the prestigious RhMSUS certification from the American College of Rheumatology, recognizing advanced expertise in ultrasound-guided diagnosis and procedures.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Bilal adores her daughters and deeply values family. She believes that her life experiences enrich her compassion and understanding, allowing her to connect with her patients on a meaningful level.
