Residency Overview

Program Purpose and Competency Areas
The PGY1 pharmacy residency program builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and contributes to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The focus of this residency is to enhance skills in pharmacy leadership, pharmaceutical care, patient education, medication therapy monitoring, establishing therapeutic goals and communication with healthcare providers.
Candidate Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE-accredited college
- Eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Virginia
- Participate in the ASHP National Matching Program
